Season support plan
Judge a past competition by its own rules
Historical scoring needs the rules that applied to that event, including any applicable corrections during the season. Changing a season label or entering an old base value is not enough.
Available now
Calling and judging lessons cover 2026–27. That season’s scoring programs and competitions now retain a specific rules snapshot. Explicitly unsupported season data is rejected before scoring.
Twelve 2025–26 rule PDFs have been preserved, including the underlying regulations, Singles/Pairs technical handbooks and value tables, and Ice Dance requirements, levels and values. Read them by discipline and panel role under Learning paths.
2025–26 manual individual rescores and shared panels are available for Senior and Junior Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance. All 3,943 imported performances pass element-by-element and total-score verification. Published technical calls and deductions stay fixed. Historical technical-call editing, Score Assist and structured lessons remain in development. The 2024–25, 2023–24 and 2022–23 archives now use the same manual judging workflow with their own verified value tables. See season coverage and source notes. The Synchronized historical source bundle has not yet been assembled.
1. Preserve the exact rule edition
Keep the season, discipline, category, governing body and effective dates together. An early-season competition can use a different revision from an event later that season. National events can have different adoption dates or additional rules.
Preserve the original documents, their revision dates and source addresses. If an ISU link expires, check dated federation copies such as USFS or Skate Canada and verify that the edition matches. Store older and newer revisions separately.
The initial archive includes a verified Skate Canada BC/YT copy of ISU 2701. Each preserved file has a checksum so its identity can be checked later. A federation’s own supplement remains separate from an ISU document it hosts.
2. Keep original protocols and interpretations separate
Retain the original PDF or results page, its date, source and page references. Preserve the printed element code, separate Info notation, base value, GOE, individual judge marks, components and deductions exactly as published.
Store the app’s parsed interpretation and calculations alongside that evidence, with the rule edition used. A corrected import becomes a new revision; it does not replace the source of an existing practice panel. Earlier uploads retained structured facts, so missing original files will need to be retrieved again.
For a larger collection, original documents should move into durable file storage with backups and a searchable source register. The rule PDFs are preserved with the Site.
3. Default a rescore to the competition’s rules
Starting a supported historical rescore or shared panel automatically selects the source event’s season and rule edition. An ambiguous event should require review before a session is created.
Keep that edition fixed for all judges, technical calls, saved marks and exported score sheets. Updating the app or importing a newer source must not change an existing session. Trying another edition creates a separate practice.
Opening Rules Desk, Element Values, Learning paths or notation definitions from that session should show its rules. Historical symbols and judging cues must come from the same edition.
4. Release capabilities only when verified
| Capability | What must be checked first |
|---|---|
| Solo and shared judging | Historical value and GOE tables, component factors, deductions, rounding, panel averaging, ties and program requirements. |
| Technical call editing | Element identities, levels, symbols, key points, restrictions and the effects of changed calls. |
| Lessons and rule search | Season-specific explanations with the exact supporting documents. |
| Score Assist | That season’s criteria, weights and limits. It can remain unavailable while verified manual judging is supported. |
Begin with one discipline and compare complete score sheets against dated official protocols, including each element and each judge’s marks. Test edge cases as well as final totals. Expand only after those checks pass.
A concrete reason to version notation
Ice Dance used ! for a choreographic requirement issue in the 2025–26 guidance. The corresponding 2026–27 guidance uses e. Singles uses ! for an unclear takeoff edge. Definitions therefore need both the discipline and the rule edition.
